The ideal candidate has strong power-systems engineering experience, particularly in utility interconnection, substations, energy storage, on-site generation, and large-load infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Power Systems Engineering
Develop and assess power-system architectures for utility supply, substations, energy storage, load management, on-site generation, and campus electrical interfaces.
Produce technical requirements, design criteria, calculations, specifications, and engineering recommendations for site-specific and repeatable fleet solutions.
Apply established engineering standards and contribute to the development of global design philosophies, modeling methods, technical acceptance criteria, and validation practices.
Identify technical risks, constraints, and opportunities affecting capacity, schedule, resiliency, operability, and future campus expansion.
Translate complex grid and power-system issues into clear technical recommendations for project and business stakeholders.
Utility Interconnection and Grid Engineering
Perform technical evaluations of utility capacity, transmission and distribution infrastructure, substations, reliability, power quality, fault duty, and expansion requirements.
Support engagement with utilities, transmission providers, ISOs/RTOs, developers, and engineering partners on interconnection and power-delivery solutions.
Define and review requirements for interconnection facilities, substations, protection and controls, grounding, and campus electrical interfaces.
Evaluate alternatives that may accelerate energization, reduce delivery risk, or unlock additional capacity.
Provide technical analyses and engineering support to Energy Contracting during utility negotiations and commercial discussions.
Early Site Power Engineering
Conduct power-system due diligence for prospective data-center sites.
Develop conceptual power architectures and compare utility and behind-the-meter alternatives during site selection and early development.
Assess interconnection complexity, infrastructure lead times, system reliability, power quality, and long-term expansion potential.
Partner with Real Estate, Site Development, Capacity Planning, and Energy Contracting to incorporate power feasibility into site and investment decisions.
Energy Storage, Load Management, and On-Site Generation
Develop engineering analyses and technical requirements for battery energy storage systems, including sizing, controls, protection, operating modes, safety, degradation, and lifecycle performance.
Evaluate BESS use cases including resiliency, grid support, load management, transient response, and capacity optimization.
Analyze load-curtailment, demand-response, flexible-load, ramp-rate-management, and peak-reduction opportunities with utilities.
Develop and assess architectures coordinating utility supply, data-center load, BESS, UPS systems, and on-site generation.
Support engineering of natural-gas generation, fuel cells, microgrids, renewable generation, and emerging power technologies.
Evaluate generation configuration, synchronization, protection, controls, grounding, black-start capability, islanding, fuel supply, emissions constraints, and maintainability.
Modeling, Analysis, Testing, and Validation
Perform or coordinate load-flow, short-circuit, protection coordination, harmonic, transient, dynamic stability, grounding, and arc-flash studies.
Use PSCAD, ETAP, SKM, EMTP, or comparable tools to model interactions among utility systems, generation, BESS, UPS technologies, and dynamic data-center loads.
Develop models and analysis methods that account for evolving AI and high-performance-computing load characteristics.
Support First-of-a-Kind qualification plans, including factory, laboratory, and site testing for power-system technologies.
Define test scenarios and acceptance criteria covering normal operations, transitions, failure modes, recovery, dynamic response, and system interactions.
Document results and recommend whether technologies are ready for broader fleet deployment.
Technology and Partner Engagement
Evaluate emerging technologies that may improve power availability, resiliency, utilization, cost, or deployment speed.
Work with OEMs, utilities, laboratories, consultants, and engineering partners to resolve technical issues and improve proposed solutions.
Contribute technical input to technology qualification roadmaps and standardization efforts.
Support the transition of successful site-specific or FOAK solutions into repeatable engineering practices.
10+ years of experience in power systems engineering, utility infrastructure, generation, transmission and distribution, energy storage, or mission-critical infrastructure.
Strong technical knowledge of utility interconnections, substations, protection and controls, power-system studies, and large electrical loads.
Experience developing, analyzing, or integrating BESS, on-site generation, microgrids, load-management, or other behind-the-meter power solutions.
Understanding of utility planning, grid constraints, interconnection processes, and large-load customer requirements.
Experience using power-system modeling tools such as PSCAD, ETAP, SKM, EMTP, or equivalent platforms.
Ability to conduct engineering analyses, develop technical requirements, and communicate findings clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Ability to work independently on complex engineering problems while collaborating across multidisciplinary project teams.
